This lovely basket is from Pakistan's Indus Valley. The Indus Valley civilization is among the oldest in the world and is referred to as the "Cradle of Civilization." Fossils of Homo sapiens from the area that date to 50,000 years ago have been discovered by archaeologists. Here, an urban civilisation known as the Indus Civilization emerged as early as 3,000 BC.
We create our baskets employing a method that is reminiscent of Native Americans in the United States. For thousands of years, village traditions in Africa, North America, and Pakistan's Indus Valley region have developed the technique of the continually shifting basket. Recall the snake in the bobbin basket, do you? Folk art travels as much as people do, therefore it is common to see similarities in patterns and designs throughout countries. Cultures influence one another over time. This occurs in both ways and shows how art naturally develops. Art will perish if this doesn't happen. Therefore, the majority of our designs are a mix of components from conventional South Asian, African, and Indian patterns.
Please note that it is handmade and unique, slight deviations in size, design and colours are quite possible.
This basket is made by hand by covering a bundle of river grass with coloured palm fronds. The palm leaves are used along with other carefully chosen leaves to create the correct colours after being boiled in boiling water with the proper dye. In this exquisite shifting basket, a stitch is added to the preceding wrap each time the palm leaf is wrapped around the wrap of grass. Such a basket can be made in a few days or, depending on the design, even a few weeks.
Usage of the Hand woven coil baskets:
Such baskets are traditionally used to serve bread and fruit. Today there are a variety of other uses for these baskets, for example:
• To organized clutter on the desk.
• As a decorative piece on the Table desk or at the Wall.
• As a unique gift for anyone interested in handmade art.
Many baskets are treated with a secret procedure: immersion in a certain solution, drying, coating with wax, polishing to get glazed matt gloss. We have been producing such polished baskets with an antique look for over five years. The technology is quite time-consuming due to drying and polishing processes.
The illustration shows our range of standard colors in which most of our wicker products are made.
• Ultra bright colors. Some baskets are custom-made in particularly bright colors.
• Polished baskets are subjected to a special waxing and polishing treatment. All materials have been tested and are free of harmful substances.
